Pinterest, one of the leading social media services recently launched an advanced search feature for users. The new search is called “Guided Search” and it helps users explore Pinterest in a more user friendly manner. The main aim of the technical geniuses behind this advanced tool is to offer search results much better than the standard search engines.
75% of total Pinterest members are smartphone and tab users. Thus, the company wants to keep the mobile users happy and launched the “Guided Search” as an exclusive app only service. People using Android and iOS based smartphones and tabs can use the “Guided Search” from the app. Although, the company announced that they will release a desktop version later.
Guided Search not only helps people find what they are looking for, but also the things they may never knew existed. All the search suggestions are completely visual. Adding and removing search terms is very easy. For instance, when a user searches for “Redwood”, he gets lots of results along with image tiles such as “camping”, “forest”, “national park” for more refined search. The user can touch on any of those tiles to dig deeper and find specific items. Basically, Pinterest wants to offer recommendation to the users for anything they search.
